GREENSBORO, N.C. Methodist University women's tennis took part in a non-conference contest at Guilford College on Sunday afternoon, where the Monarchs won their first match of the season against the host Quakers 7–0 on the Centennial Class Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- It did not take long for Methodist to take a 1–0 lead in the match, as the pairs of Veva Willocks/Wilette Rivera Morales and Emma Hulicki/Caitlin Tihanovich were victorious in their respective flights. Willocks and Rivera Morales played in the third doubles flight and swept the opposition 6-0, while Hulicki and Tihanovich faced off against Guilford's No. 1 doubles team, defeating them 6-1.
- Though their match didn't count toward the doubles point, the other duo of Annabelle Subirats and Katie Sechrist won the No. 2 flight by a score of 6-4.
- The Monarchs would take a 3–0 match lead after Willocks and Tihanovich were the first two Methodist players to finish their single flights. On court five, Willocks defeated Amy Soto Salgado 6-1, 6-0, while Tihanovich got the win on court three against Jolie Nhouyvanisvong, 6-1, 6-1.
- Rivera Morales claimed another victory for the Monarchs in No. 6 singles by beating Bethany Lupo of the Quakers 6-4, 6-1. Ultimately, Sechrist secured the match for Methodist, 5–0, following her 6-4, 6-2 win over Chandler Sizemore in No. 4 singles.
- In No. 1 singles, Hulicki defeated Guilford's Ashley Belnap 7-5, 6-1, while the Monarchs' Subirats battled Erika Mendez of the Quakers on the No. 2s court. Subirats won the first set 7-5 before Mendez evened the flight with a 6-2 victory in set two. In the super tiebreaker, Subirats overpowered Mendez and won the final set 10-5.

Methodist returns home for one match before spring break on Thursday, March 6, as the Monarchs begin USA South action against Mary Baldwin University. The match is scheduled to start at 2 PM.
