HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
  • Jackson Deal started the game with a home run — his second leadoff homer of the season. A Tristen Melvin grand slam in the top of the second gave Methodist a 5–0 lead, and another dinger by Deal in the fourth made the score 6–0.
  • The Monarchs scored three more runs in the fourth inning, then Blake Freeman batted in a pair in the fifth, giving Methodist an 11–0 advantage. Jackson Kuhn scored once in the sixth, then brought Austin Rinzel home in the eighth for the thirteenth run after Mary Baldwin scored its lone run in the seventh inning.
  • Kyle Molivas went 6.2 innings on the bump for the Monarchs, striking out five batters. Paul Olive saw his first action of the season, recording two strikeouts as he finished the final inning and a third.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
  • After four scoreless innings, a two–out double by Brandon Mauger in the top of the fifth brought home Deal and Justin Blunt for the first two runs of the game.
  • The Monarchs scored two more runs in the sixth, then used extra–base hits to their advantage in the seventh. Deal doubled in the second at–bat of the inning, scoring Parker Evans from first. With two outs and runners on the corners, Tristen Melvin stole second while Blake Freeman safely took home. A triple by Rinzel safely scored Melvin, making the score 7–0.
  • Making an improbable, come–from–behind effort, the Fighting Squirrels put up four runs in the seventh and two in the eighth before walking it off with a two–run home run in the ninth.

  • Ian Swanson matched a career high as he dealt seven strikeouts in the loss. He conceded just three hits across 6.2 innings and two runs (both unearned).
