Monarchs End Regular Season With Victory over Greensboro

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  Finishing the regular season in style, the Methodist women's lacrosse team defeated Greensboro College on Friday, outscoring the Pride 22–2. It's the fifth time this season in which the Monarchs have scored over 20 goals in a game.

THE ESSENTIALS
Final scores: Methodist def. Greensboro, 22–2
Records: Methodist 10–6 (7–2 USA South); Greensboro 5–11 (4–5 USA South)
Location: Monarch Stadium; Fayetteville, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Monarchs poured on the goals early, hitting the decade mark inside the final minute of the first quarter. Maddie Hagler and Kaitlyn Coleman recorded three goals each during the period, while Mikayla Ramos logged four assists.
  • With a 10–goal gap and therefore a running clock, Methodist scored the first three goals of the second quarter before finally conceding a score to Greensboro on a free position shot. The Monarchs were down a player when the goal was given up.
  • Inside the final 10 seconds of the first half, an errant pass by the Pride near midfield put the ball in the stick of Ainsley McGinn, who ripped a pass up ahead to Macey Blackburn for a score before the buzzer.
  • The Monarchs scored four goals in the third quarter and got creative with their offensive personnel. With Victorianna Murray in net for the second half, Ashley Fuentes re–entered the game at attack and contributed an assist for the first time in her collegiate career, connecting Layla Wiesenfeld for the score.
  • In the fourth quarter, Methodist added five goals while allowing one more by Greensboro. The final goal of the game was scored by freshman Abigail Wilson — her seventh goal of the season.
FAST FACTS
  • Wiesenfeld scored five goals for the third time in her career and the first time since her freshman season.
  • It was a career day for both Brooke Murrell and Kennedy Martin, who each achieved new personal records. Murrell's six caused turnovers and seven ground balls were both career highs, while Martin's 12 draw controls were a career best.
