Another Four Monarchs Are Recognized as Weekly Winners

ROME, Ga.  The USA South released its Athletes of the Week on Monday, recognizing a quartet of Methodist student-athletes from the Monarchs' baseball, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, and men's tennis programs.
 
For the third time this season, freshman Ian Swanson has been named the League's Baseball Pitcher and Rookie Pitcher of the Week. The Tallahassee, Florida, product earned the win in game two of the Pfeiffer series after pitching six scoreless innings, allowing four hits, one walk, and striking out a career-high nine Falcon batters.
 
Graham Clausen, a sophomore, picked up Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week honors following the team's 23–15 win at Southern Virginia. Hailing from Summerfield, North Carolina, Clausen went 23-for-36 (.639) in the faceoff circle and collected 15 ground balls, a new career-high. Offensively, he also scored two goals.
 
It was a career day for junior Brooke Murrell as she was selected as the Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week. In the 22–2 victory against Greensboro, the Perryville, Maryland, native recorded six caused turnovers and seven ground balls. She also had four draw controls and scored one goal.
 
Matthew Hurley claims another Men's Tennis Player of the Week accolade after defeating a regionally ranked opponent. In the team's match at North Carolina Wesleyan University, the Aussie from Faulconbridge, New South Wales, played No. 1 singles and faced the sixth-ranked player in the Atlantic South at that time, winning 6-4, 6-3.
