HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
- Kiersten Margoupis began the game with two excellent innings of work from the pitcher's circle as both sides remained scoreless. After the Battling Bishops loaded the bases with no outs to start the third, Ragan Holloman launched a base–clearing double to left–center field. Holloman was brought home for North Carolina Wesleyan's fourth run.
- When she returned to the plate in the fourth inning, Holloman once again saw the bases loaded. Blasting the ball to the right side of the outfield this time, she cleared the bags for a second time while rounding all the way to third. She scored during the next at–bat, making the score 8–0.
- With Devan Wenger on third, Hannah Lovick's single in the bottom of the fifth scored a run for Methodist to extend the game. However, with five runs in the sixth, the Battling Bishops sailed to a 12–run lead which triggered an eight–run rule and ended the game after the Monarchs were unable to score in the bottom of the sixth inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
- Emma Neeley put together a career day in terms of strikeouts, but she was left with no run support by the Methodist offense. Neeley earned three strikeouts in the first two innings, holding the visitors to two hits with no runs.
- North Carolina Wesleyan was able to score once in the third, then ignited for five hits in the fourth inning, adding three more runs to the scoreboard. With an unearned run in the fifth, the Battling Bishops went up 5–0.
- Emily Humphrey pitched a perfect first five innings before Rachel Lawson reached base on a two–out single in the bottom of the sixth. Lovick followed with another single to the outfield, but the rally fell short.
- The visitors scored a final run in the seventh inning, and Amanda Blackburn proved to be the only other Methodist batter able to record a hit.
NUMBERS
- Neeley fanned a career–high seven batters, topping her previous best of six in a single game.
- Lovick was the only batter to record a hit in both games for Methodist, batting 3–for–6 on the day.
