FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. The Methodist University men's lacrosse team, the No. 3 seed, made a strong statement to open the 2025 USA South Men's Lacrosse Tournament, rolling to a commanding 20-7 victory over sixth-seeded William Peace University on Saturday afternoon at Monarch Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After falling behind by two to begin the contest, Methodist quickly changed the tone, outscoring the Pacers 8–3 in the first quarter. RJ Breeden and Jacob Burnette led the early charge, each finding the back of the net multiple times. The Monarch's offense fired 15 shots in the quarter, while the defense forced nine turnovers to limit the Pacers' chances.
- Methodist tightened its grip in the second quarter, shutting out William Peace while adding four more goals to the scoreboard. A man-up goal from Cy Horner and an unassisted tally from Jay Legg highlighted the period, along with Breeden and Burnette scoring again, as the Monarchs extended their lead to 12–3 at the halftime break.
- Coming out of halftime, Methodist continued to press offensively, matching its second-quarter output with four more goals. Breeden and Burnette stayed hot, while William English and Caleb Trahan added man-up goals for William Peace. Despite allowing two goals in the frame, Methodist kept firm control, carrying a 16–5 advantage into the final quarter.
- The Monarchs closed the game out in strong fashion, netting four goals in the fourth to seal the 20-7 win. Nate Moore, Matt Bentz, Owen Andrews, and Josh Crabtree each found the net for Methodist, showcasing the team's depth.
