BUENA VISTA & LYNCHBURG, Va. The Methodist University men's tennis team extended its USA South winning streak with a commanding 7–0 sweep over Southern Virginia University on Saturday before suffering a tough 5–2 non-conference loss against Randolph College on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED – SATURDAY
- The Monarchs were locked in from the start at the SVU Tennis Complex, claiming all three doubles matches to set the tone for a dominant performance.
- Methodist's Matthew Hurley and Decklan Rayner continued their strong doubles run, defeating the Pitcher brothers, Mason and Jared, of Southern Virginia by a 6-2 margin at the No. 1 spot. In No. 2 doubles, Drew Guarnieri and Cameron Roth of the Monarchs delivered under pressure, edging out a 7-6 (7-4) victory over the Knights' Nate Walton and Trent McBride. The Methodist pair of Harry Crokam and Ethan Carlyle rounded out the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot.
- Singles play was more of the same as the Monarchs refused to surrender a single set across all six courts. Hurley led the way at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Mason Pitcher, while Crokam followed suit on Court 2 with a 6-3, 6-2 win of his own. Anton McCloskey stepped up at the No. 3 spot, dispatching Walton 6-4, 6-1.
- Carlyle, Tihanovich, and Guarnieri sealed the sweep with straight-set wins at positions four through six, respectively. Guarnieri's 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 6 put an emphatic stamp on a clinical team performance.
HOW IT HAPPENED – SUNDAY
- Doubles play tilted the early momentum in Randolph's favor as the hosts claimed victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, winning both flights by scores of 6-3. Guarnieri and Roth were able to salvage a moral victory for Methodist, as the pair came up clutch again with a 7-6 (7-3) win at the No. 2 spot.
- In singles, Hurley secured a hard-fought win at No. 1, bouncing back from a second-set stumble to take down Andreas Mulner 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. Guarnieri also picked up a point for the Monarchs at No. 5 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Carlos Haupt.
- Randolph's depth proved too much in the remaining matchups. Martin edged Crokam in a grueling three-set battle (5-7, 6-3, 0-1 (8-10)) at No. 2 singles, while the WildCats collected straight-set wins on courts three, four, and six to clinch the team result.
