Methodist Concludes Men's Lacrosse Season in USA South Championship

MISENHEIMER, N.C.  Appearing in the USA South Championship game for the second time in program history, the Methodist men's lacrosse team took on the reigning champs of Pfeiffer University on Saturday. It was a challenging game for the Monarchs, who fell 18–3 to the Falcons.  
 
For their efforts throughout the three tournament games, Jay Legg, RJ Breeden, Daniel Wright, Calvin Flippin and Jake Bandler were named to the All–Tournament Team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first six minutes were scoreless for both sides, with two savvy saves made by Ethan Jahr. Soon, the Falcons put a pair of goals into the back of the net. Jahr made three more impressive saves to keep the Monarchs within arm's reach, but Pfeiffer poured on the shots and ended the period with two more goals.  
  • An avalanche of goals ensued in the second quarter, with the Falcons outscoring Methodist 7–0 to take an 11–goal lead into the halftime break.
  • After conceding two more goals in the third quarter, the Monarchs were able to find the back of the net with back–to–back goals from Jay Legg and Cy Horner. Methodist tallied a final goal in the fourth quarter as senior Matt Bentz was able to score on his only shot of the game.
FAST FACTS
  • The Monarchs finish 2025 with 12 wins — the second–most wins for a single season in program history.
  • Legg's goal gives him 46 on the season, which ranks fourth in program history for goals scored in a single season. Current assistant coach Hunter Vaughn still holds the record with his 57–goal season in 2023, followed twice by Methodist Athletics Hall of Famer Jake Smerka, who recorded 49 goals in 2016 and 47 goals in 2017.
  • Legg's 60 points on the season also rank fifth all–time in terms of single–season statistics.
  • With seven faceoff wins on Saturday, Graham Clausen finishes with 217 on the season, which is the second–best single–season mark in program history. He surpasses by Tyler Bennett by one faceoff win, topping his 216 victories in 2023.
  • Jahr's 178 saves this season are the most ever in a single season by a Methodist goalkeeper. The previous high was 152 by Liam Von Hoene in 2019.
