FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Despite appearing to be in control for most of Saturday's match with Averett University, the Methodist men's soccer team was unable to find the back of the net at any point, earning its fourth draw of the season.
JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Methodist tied Averett, 0-0
Records: Methodist 3-2-4, Averett 2-2-3
Location: Duggins Soccer Stadium; Fayetteville, North Carolina
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Carson Stretz delivered the first strike for the Monarchs — a shot on goal that Averett goalkeeper Anibal Sanchez saved with his feet despite diving away from the shot. It was one of four shots the Monarchs took within the first 10 minutes of action. Methodist ended the half having taken seven shots while holding the Cougars to zero attempts at the goal.
- Trey Gohr's afternoon in goal remained quiet in the second half as the Cougars attempted just two shots, though neither required a saving effort from Gohr.
- Offensively, the Monarchs earned eight corner kicks and took nine shots during the final 45 minutes. The effort did not lead to production however, as Sanchez was able to save all five shots that Methodist placed on goal.
NUMBERS
- Stretz led the team with a career–high six shots, including three on–goal.
- After starting the season 3–2, the Monarchs are now on a four–match winless streak, which includes three ties.
