JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Methodist defeats Mary Baldwin, 4-0
Records: Methodist 5-2-4 (1-0-0 USA South), Mary Baldwin 2-7-1 (0-1-0 USA South)
Location: SMA Worth Field; Staunton, Virginia
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Monarchs attacked right from the jump, with shots by Josh Mott and Angel Alarcon both saved in the first six minutes. Methodist persisted, taking eight shots in the half before finally converting on the ninth — a header by Alex Ramson in the 41st minute. To set the goal up, Gerard Bradley received a pass toward the box, and after taking a touch, he passed the ball out to Brogan Murphy, who delivered the perfect cross to Ramson standing by the left post.
- Steven Floyd capitalized on two corner kicks in the second half, with the first coming in the 58th minute. Alarcon booted a pass towards the box from the right corner, and a leaping Floyd headed the ball past the keeper on the left side of the frame for a goal.
- Less than five minutes later, Carson Stretz send a pass from the same corner into the box, and Floyd was once again the Monarch who found himself above everyone's shoulders and put a head on the ball to collect the goal.
- In the 82nd minute, a long ball from Ramson that trailed from left to right ended up at the foot of Tyler Bagwell, who was playing right–post side. Bagwell gave the ball a kick back across the front of the goal and Bradley was there to finish the job.
NUMBERS
- Floyd, who had not played in the team's previous three contests, made his presence felt with the two goals scored. It's the second multi–goal game of his career and first since Oct. 4, 2024, when he scored twice against the Knights of Southern Virginia.
- After 85 minutes of shutout action for Trey Gohr (who faced no shots on goal), sophomore Ryan Kromke saw his first minutes as a Monarch and made one save to keep the Fighting Squirrels scoreless.
