Monarchs Drop Non-Conference Twin Bill at Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va.  Methodist softball traveled to Moon Field on Saturday afternoon, falling in a non-conference doubleheader to the University of Lynchburg, 4–1 in game one and 7–1 in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
  • Both teams were kept off the scoreboard through the first two innings before Lynchburg broke through in the third. With runners on the corners, consecutive hits by Alyssa Talayumptewa and Helen Maddux, a single and a double, respectively, gave the Hornets a 3–0 advantage.
  • The Hornets added an insurance run in the sixth inning. Back-to-back hits put runners in scoring position, and a productive groundout by Alex Love extended the lead to 4–0.
  • Methodist showed resilience in its final at-bat. Freshman Bethany Fisher sparked the rally with a leadoff single and later crossed the plate after consecutive Lynchburg errors, accounting for the Monarchs' lone run of the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
  • The Monarchs struck first in the second game. Senior Hannah Lovick reached on an infield single and advanced into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt before senior Alyssa Rivas delivered an RBI double to give Methodist an early 1–0 lead.
  • Lynchburg answered in the bottom half of the inning with three runs to take control. The Hornets continued to build their advantage with another run in the third and three more in the fourth to secure the sweep.
NUMBERS
  • Fisher and Rivas each recorded a hit in both games.
  • Senior Kiersten Margoupis got the start in the first game, while sophomore Mia Wraight took the circle in game two.
UP NEXT
The Monarchs return to Fayetteville to host Guilford College in a doubleheader on Saturday, February 28. First pitch at Price Field is scheduled for noon.
