Monarchs Sweep Roanoke to Close Spring Break Trip

SALEM, Va.  The Methodist women's tennis team wrapped up its spring break trip in dominant fashion on Wednesday afternoon, sweeping Roanoke College 7–0 in non-conference play at the EC Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Methodist began the dual by winning two of the three doubles matches to take an early 1–0 lead. At the No. 1 position, Emma Hulicki and Shea Bieniek earned a 6–3 victory over Bella Gustafson and Lia Streibich. The Monarchs secured the doubles point at the No. 3 spot, where Katie Sechrist and Addison Haden defeated Victoria Rios and Kaleigh Menefee by a score of 6–1.
  • Roanoke's only win of the day came at No. 2 doubles, where Raygan Wade and Camryn Breedlove defeated Helen Hofmann and Caitlin Tihanovich 6–4.
  • In singles play, Methodist controlled the match by sweeping all six courts. At the top position, Hulicki picked up a straight-set victory over Gustafson, winning 6–2, 6–1. At No. 2 singles, Hofmann rallied after dropping the opening set 4–6 to Streibich, responding with back-to-back set wins of 6–3 and 6–1 to secure the point.
  • Tihanovich followed a similar path at No. 3 singles, falling in the first set 5–7 before bouncing back with a 6–3, 6–0 finish against Wade. At the No. 4 spot, Shea Bieniek earned a 6–3, 6–2 victory over Rios.
  • The final two matches saw Sechrist defeat Morgan Tobey 6–1, 6–2 at No. 5 singles, while Haden closed out the Monarch sweep with a 6–0, 6–0 win over Samantha Cox at No. 6.

After playing seven matches in six days during its spring break trip, Methodist returns to action on Tuesday, March 24, when the Monarchs travel to Meredith College. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
