FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist women's lacrosse returned to USA South play on Saturday, hosting Southern Virginia University inside Monarch Stadium. The Monarchs jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Knights 14–4.
After the contest, Methodist honored its 2026 senior class:

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist wasted no time taking control, opening the game with a 5–0 run in the first quarter. Freshman Alana Rabon scored the opening goal before Murrell followed with one of her own after assisting on the first score. Wiesenfeld added back-to-back goals, and Mundy capped the surge with a goal to give the Monarchs a commanding lead. After Southern Virginia broke through for its first score, sophomore Anna Tabarrini answered late in the period to make it 6–1.
- The Monarchs continued to build their advantage in the second quarter, scoring the first three goals of the frame. Sophomore Rylie Sturgill netted two during the stretch, while Wiesenfeld added another. The Knights managed one goal in the quarter, but Wiesenfeld responded with her fourth of the game to send Methodist into halftime with a 10–2 lead.
- Out of the break, both teams traded goals in a quieter third quarter. Sturgill accounted for the Monarchs' lone score of the period, while Southern Virginia added one to make it 11–3 heading into the final frame.
- Methodist closed out the contest in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Knights 3–1. Burton became the fourth senior honored on the day to find the back of the cage, while Wiesenfeld added two more goals to finish off her standout performance and secure the 14–4 victory.
FAST FACTS
- For the second consecutive game, Wiesenfeld led all scorers in goals, scoring a game-high six goals. Sturgill was the only other Monarch to record multiple goals, with three.
- Murrell anchored the defense with eight ground balls and six caused turnovers, both matching career highs.
