Methodist Drops Conference Opener to N.C. Wesleyan

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  The Methodist women's tennis team opened USA South play on Wednesday afternoon, falling 6–1 to North Carolina Wesleyan University at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • North Carolina Wesleyan gained early momentum by sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the opening point.
  • The Battling Bishops extended their lead to 3–0 after picking up victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Junior Caitlin Tihanovich fell 2–6, 2–6 to Bethan Fothergill at the No. 2 position, while freshman Helen Hofmann dropped a 2–6, 3–6 decision to Ivanna Torres at No. 3.
  • Methodist got on the board at the No. 4 spot, where freshman Shea Bieniek delivered a strong performance with a 6–2, 6–2 win over Renata Torres.
  • North Carolina Wesleyan secured the match victory at the top flight, as Andrea Elaez Miranda defeated junior Emma Hulicki 6–1, 6–3.
  • The Battling Bishops closed out the match with wins at the final two singles positions. Katie Sechrist fell 6–2, 6–1 at No. 5, while Addison Haden dropped a 6–3, 6–1 decision at No. 6.
