DANVILLE, Va. In a pair of road games with the Averett University Cougars, the Methodist softball team fell twice on Thursday, coming up scoreless in both contests. The Monarchs dropped game one by a score of 7-0, then fell 3-0 in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED – Game 1
- The Cougars scored the first run in the bottom of the first inning, then tallied three runs in the third and three more in the fourth.
- Methodist produced just two hits during the game, with Alyssa Rivas recording a single in the top of the first, and Kalea Parker connecting on a leadoff single in the fifth.
HOW IT HAPPENED – Game 2
- The Monarchs had three hits in game two. Dakota Putman created the first with a leadoff single in the third inning, but she was eventually left stranded on second. After Averett scored its first run in the bottom of the third, Haley Downes led off the fourth with a single, then stole second. A sacrifice bunt by Rivas moved Downes to third, but she wouldn't reach home.
- A two-run inning for the Cougars in the fifth put the home team up 3-0. Rachel Lawson logged a leadoff single in the seventh, then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Ella Poulk, but the Monarchs were unable to bring her around.
