FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. The Methodist women's lacrosse team opened the 2026 USA South Women's Lacrosse Tournament in dominant fashion Friday afternoon, rolling past Huntingdon College, 24–2, in a first-round matchup at Monarch Stadium.

Layla Wiesenfeld made history, scoring nine goals to set a new program single-season record with 72—surpassing Madison Ronelli's mark of 71 set in 2018.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams traded goals early, with the score tied 1–1 through the opening three minutes. From there, Methodist seized control, rattling off nine consecutive goals to build a 10–1 advantage.
- After Huntingdon briefly halted the run, Wiesenfeld closed the first quarter with back-to-back goals, extending the Monarchs' lead to 12–2.
- Methodist continued to pour it on in the second quarter, with freshman Alana Rabon and sophomore Rylie Sturgill each scoring twice as part of a six-goal frame that made it 18–2 at halftime.
- Out of the break, the Monarchs added six more goals—four in the third quarter and two in the fourth—to cap the 24–2 victory.
