Monarchs’ Tournament Run Ends in Championship Match

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.  The Methodist men's tennis team wrapped up its postseason run on Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 31 North Carolina Wesleyan University, 4–1, in the championship match of the 2026 USA South Men's Tennis Tournament at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Methodist battled to claim the doubles point and take an early 1–0 lead.
  • The No. 3 tandem of Billy Johnson and Andrew Waddill was first off the court, falling 2-6 to give North Carolina Wesleyan the early edge. The Monarchs answered at the top spot, where Matthew Hurley and Decklan Rayner evened doubles play with a 6-3 win at No. 1.
  • The deciding match came down to the No. 2 position, where Harry Crokam and Aaron Zoubek delivered the clinching 7-5 victory to secure the doubles point for Methodist.
  • In singles play, No. 31 North Carolina Wesleyan responded by winning four completed flights to take control of the match.
  • The Battling Bishops evened the score at No. 6 singles before taking the lead with a win at No. 5. They added two more victories on the remaining completed courts to clinch the 4–1 result.
