RALEIGH, N.C. Competing in USA South action against the Avenging Angels of Meredith College, the Methodist softball team dropped a pair of road games on Tuesday, falling 8-0 in the first contest before suffering a narrow, 3-2 defeat in the second game.

HOW IT HAPPENED – Game 1
- The Monarchs were held to just one hit in Tuesday's first contest, but they also produced three baserunners via walk. Two of those walks came in the first inning, when the Monarchs loaded the bases with no outs. However, Meredith escaped the inning unscathed.
- Dakota Putman started the fourth with a leadoff single, reaching second on a pass ball before advancing to third after Minnie Johnson put the ball in play. Still, the Monarchs were unable to bring a run across the plate.
- The Monarchs held the Avenging Angels to just three runs through the first five innings, but five runs in the bottom of the sixth were enough to trigger the conference's mercy rule.
HOW IT HAPPENED – Game 2
- Methodist generated two hits in the top of the first before Ella Poulk put the ball in play to that bring Hannah Lovick home. In the bottom of the second inning, Meredith produced four hits and a walk while benefitting from an error, ultimately scoring three runs during the frame.
- The Monarchs got one run back in the fourth, with Kalea Parker drawing a walk during her pinch-hit appearance with bases loaded, but they were unable to drive home a tying run. Methodist got two runners on base in the seventh, but the Avenging Angels put an end to the effort with the tying run left on second base.

The Monarchs travel to Buena Vista, Virginia, on Saturday for a doubleheader with Southern Virginia University beginning at noon.
