No. 64 Methodist Defeats Pfeiffer in USA South Play

MISENHEIMER, N.C.  The No. 64-ranked Methodist women's tennis team handed Pfeiffer University its first USA South loss of the season on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Falcons 6–1 at the Knapp Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Methodist took an early 1–0 lead after sweeping all three doubles matches.
  • The No. 2 tandem of Helen Hofmann and Caitlin Tihanovich was first to finish, defeating Sydney Cohen and Riley Isley 6–3. At the top position, Shea Bieniek and Emma Hulicki followed with a 6–4 win over Fanny Apostolou and Haley Ingenito. The Monarchs completed the sweep at No. 3 doubles, where Katie Sechrist and Wilette Rivera Morales edged Kristen Colie and Gracie Spangler 7–5.
  • In singles play, Methodist quickly secured the match by claiming the next three flights. Bieniek earned a 6–1, 6–3 victory at No. 4 singles, while Hofmann and Tihanovich followed with identical 6–1, 6–3 wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively.
  • Pfeiffer picked up its lone point of the afternoon before the Monarchs added two more wins to close the match.
  • At the top spot, Hulicki won the first set 6–3 before sealing the match in a second-set tiebreaker, 7–6 (7–1). At No. 6 singles, Addison Haden also needed a tiebreaker in the opening set, winning 7–6 (7–3) before taking the second set 6–4.
