Roland Matthews

Coach Matthews is in his second year with the Monarchs. After spending last season as the defensive line intern, where he helped coach a unit that finished second in the USA South in sacks, and helped players B.J. Minter (First Team) and James Atkinson (Second Team) to all-conference accolades, Matthews was promoted in the spring of 2015 to a full-time coach who will coach the outside linebackers. This year, he will be coaching the heroes and the will linebackers, as well as handling all equipment duties for the Monarchs.

A 2014 graduate of Presbyterian College, he earned a bachelor’s degree in both religion and Christian education. While a member of the Bluehose, Matthews held many different roles on the team, first, as a player, and then as a student assistant, where he assisted in all phases of the program. That includes the responsibility of coaching the defensive tackles in the 2013 campaign.

He is the son of Dan and Lynn Matthews from Camden, S.C. and has one sister, Meg (13).
