Mike Walter joined the Methodist men's lacrosse staff in August 2013 after graduating in the spring from Ferrum College with a Bachelor's Degree in health and human performance. During his time at Ferrum, the Ashburn, Va. native played one season of lacrosse and also later served as a volunteer assistant coach. Prior to attending Ferrum, Walter also played for Pfeiffer University's men's lacrosse team.

In September of 2013, Walter added the Interim Head Women's Lacrosse Coach title as he coached the team's fall season and continued to recruit for the program during a coaching vacancy.

At the conclusion of the 2012 season, Walter, Ferrum's first-ever men's lacrosse graduate, was honored with an award bearing his namesake. The Mike Walter Senior Award is annually given to a graduating Ferrum men's player who best embodies the traits of unselfishness, hustle and desire.

In addition to his accomplishments at Ferrum, Walter has previously  worked as an instructor at the Naval Academy's summer lacrosse camp.
