Kim McManus enters her first year at the right hand of head coach Eddie Matthews as the assistant coach for the Monarchs’ volleyball team.
McManus takes the step up to collegiate coaching after a stellar head coaching career at Freedom Christian Academy. After joining the FCA coaching staff in 2009, McManus helped lead the 1A NCISAA team to four regular-season conference titles, as well as three conference tournament wins. From 2011-14, the Patriots held a 111-7 overall record, and were the 1A state runners-up in 2013. FCA advanced to the state semifinals in 2012 and the state quarterfinals in 2014.
Prior to FCA, McManus served as the head coach for Wesleyan Christian Academy from 2006-08 where she led the team to regular-season and conference tournament titles all three years. The team also advanced to the 3A state semi-finals in 2007 and 2008.
In 2013, McManus was named the Fayetteville Observer’s Cumberland County Coach of the Year. She was also awarded two conference coach of the year awards, once in 2006 for the Piedmont Athletic Conference of Independent Schools and again in 2014 for the Coastal Plain Independent Conference.
McManus graduated from UNC-Greensboro with a bachelor’s of science in middle grades education after receiving a full athletic scholarship as an outside hitter. She currently ranks 6th in program history in number of digs per set with 2.91. During her four years, she accumulated all-tournament honors, served as a team captain and was the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Representative for UNCG.
