Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist University men's soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a 4-0 shutout over Randolph College Saturday afternoon at the Monarch Soccerplex. Methodist improved to 9-8 overall, while Randolph fell to 7-10.
The Monarchs took an early 1-0 lead in the first half when senior
Sean Gregory received a rebound off the cross bar and shot the ball over the Wildcat's goalie. Just over a minute later,
Sean Gregory took another shot, which was deflected by the goalie into the control of senior Evan Montiero, who shot to the high corner for the goal, giving Methodist the 2-0 lead only four minutes into the game. The score remained the same as the teams went to halftime.
Senior
James Gunderson opened the scoring in the second half when he beat his defender for an unassisted goal. To keep up with the senior celebration,
Mike DeMara crossed the ball to
Sean Gregory, who scored the fourth and final goal of the game.
Methodist freshman goalkeeper
Kyle Beach made two saves in the win, and Aaron Humphreys totaled seven saves for Randolph.
The Monarchs close out the regular season on Thursday when they travel to Greensboro.
