Box Score MURFREESBORO, N.C.- Methodist University men's soccer posted its sixth shutout of the season Tuesday afternoon against Division II Chowan University. The Monarchs improve to 7-6 overall while Chowan falls to 0-13.
James Gunderson scored off a pass from
Mike DeMara in the eighth minute to give the Monarchs an early lead over Chowan.
Sean Gregory beat the Hawks' defenders later in the first half to bring Methodist to 2-0. Once again,
James Gunderson started the scoring in the second half when he nailed a header with an assist from goalkeeper
Kyle Beach.
Thomas Blum set up Evan Montiero for a shot to the far post to give Methodist a substantial lead over Chowan. Continuing the offensive force, sophomore
Darren Wilson beat his defender for an unassisted goal. Minutes later,
Darren Wilson delivered the ball to sophomore
Stan Pajak who shot past the Chowan goalkeeper to seal the shutout.
Methodist goalkeeper,
Kyle Beach made one save while Ronnie Thompson made 8 saves for Chowan .
The men's soccer team will host Christopher Newport this Saturday at the Monarch Soccerplex at 3:30 pm.
