Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist men's soccer team took a 2-0 lead in the first half and then cruised to a 7-0 victory thanks to five goals in the second half.
Methodist sophomore Brion Kelly scored the first goal on a free kick in the 21st minute. Senior Mike DeMara scored the second goal off the rebound of junior Bret Brennan's shot.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Brennan scored on the assist from DeMara and senior Brandon Cunningham. Senior Evan Monteiro scored in the 54th minute on a shot to the far post at the edge of the 18-yard box. Cunningham fed Brennan for the Monarchs fifth goal. Freshman Charles Bartlett scored on a first time shot after the feed from sophomore Darren Wilson. Wilson picked up a goal of his own on the assist from freshman Julian Hart to finish the scoring.
Kyle Beach had three saves for Methodist while Ben Pittsley had ten saves for the Panthers.
The Monarchs (11-8, 4-2) advance to the USA South Tournament semifinals at N.C. Wesleyan on Friday.
