ATLANTA, GA - Emory University shut out Methodist 8-0 Sunday afternoon on their way to winning the Sonny Carter Invitational. The Monarchs move to 1-1 while 13th ranked Emory improves to 2-0 this year.

Methodist created a corner kick opportunity early in the game, but it was Emory who scored first with a string of goals midway through the half. The Eagles scored their first two goals in less than a minute and knocked in three more before the end of the half for a 5-0 halftime lead.

The Monarchs had four shots in the second half forcing the Eagles goalkeeper to make two saves, but Emory knocked in two additional goals late in the game for the 8-0 win.

Freshmen Cory Harrison and Kyle Beach both spent time in goal for the Monarchs with Beach making seven stops.
