Monarchs Knock Off Southeastern 3-0

Senior Mike DeMara scores game-winning goal

Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Monarchs took the 1-0 lead in the 26th minute and went on to finish with the 3-0 win over Southeastern University.  Methodist moves to 3-4 this season and Southeastern is 5-2-1.

In the 26th minute of the game, sophomore Stan Pajak fed the ball inside to senior Mike DeMara who shot far post for the first goal of the game.  The Monarchs held the 1-0 lead at halftime before coming back with two goals in the second half.  Sophomore Brion Kelly set up to take a free kick in the 60th minute and bent the ball around the wall to hit side netting.  Kelly followed up with another goal in the 68th minute after the corner kick from senior James Gunderson.

Southeastern out shot the Monarchs 17-13, but Methodist goalkeeper Kyle Beach made five saves to preserve the shutout.  Southeastern keeper Bart Sheldrake had two saves in goal.

The Monarchs will travel to Ferrum on Monday.
