ABILENE, TEXAS - Coast to Coast Classic host McMurry University took an early 7-0 lead before moving within three runs. McMurry finished off with two more runs to take the 9-4 win.
McMurry (1-3) got on the board first after a leadoff double in the bottom of the second inning. They capitalized on a Methodist (0-1) error and picked up two more doubles to take the 3-0 lead. The third inning went scoreless before McMurry broke out in the bottom of the fourth with four runs on five hits for the 7-0 lead.
With one out in the top of the sixth, Methodist sophomore
Brian Inghram singled to center to start things off. Senior
Brad Davis singled to left and and Inghram stole third for both runners to advance. Senior
Dustin Proctor put the Monarchs on the board with a three-run homerun. Junior
Brian Halpin kept things going with a single and freshman
Trey Such drew the walk. Halpin moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on sophomore
Tripp Lancaster's single. The Monarchs finished the top of the sixth trailing 7-4.
McMurry only gave up two more hits in the final three innings while adding two insurance runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth for the 9-4 win.
Senior
Elliott Bisplinghoff threw the first four innings for Methodist while freshman
Matt Partin, sophomore
Tre Britt and freshman
Michael Mahaffey all threw in relief.
Cody Curry went five and a third for McMurry to pick up the loss.
The Monarchs will continue in the
Coast to Coast Classic with Mary Hardin-Baylor Friday at 5:30 pm (CST).
