FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's tennis team took on NCAA Division II Pfeiffer University and lost a tight 5-4 match.
The Monarchs started out with two wins in doubles to take the 2-1 lead. Senior
Shannon Vivian and sophomore
Kaitlin Flaherty won 8-2 at number one and senior
Cameron Tinkham and sophomore
Heather Brayton won 8-3 at number three. Junior
Lindsey Davis and freshman
Dana Powell lost 8-2 at number two.
Tinkham put the Monarchs up 3-1 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six singles before Pfeiffer won the next two singles matches to even the score at three. Brayton lost 6-2, 6-1 at number five and Flaherty lost 6-2, 6-2 at number one. Powell gave Methodist the 4-3 advantage with a 6-0, 6-4 win at number four. Vivian and Davis battled it out at the number two and three spots before both fell in three sets. Vivian lost 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 and Davis lost 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
The Monarchs will take the next two weeks to prepare for their Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, S.C. where they will take on Wartburg, York, Augustana, and Adrian Mar. 1-3.
