Methodist Wins 6-1 Over Virginia Wesleyan

Trey Such finished 3-for-3 with three RBI

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Monarchs outscored Virginia Wesleyan 6-1 Wednesday afternoon to win their seventh game of the season.

Methodist (7-3) got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning. Brad Davis walked and advanced to third on Trey Such's single to left field. Brian Goodwin laid down the sacrifice bunt for Davis to score. The Monarchs added a run in the fourth on a RBI single from Such to score Dustin Proctor.

The Marlins (6-4) scored a run in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly, but the Monarchs came back with three runs in the bottom of the inning.  Shawn Lovette led off with a double and scored on Brian Inghram's  single down the left field line. Proctor singled through the left side for Inghram to advance to second. Both runners advanced on Davis' sacrifice bunt and Such's single to center scored Inghram and Proctor for the 5-1 lead.

Proctor led off the bottom of the eighth with a solo shot to left field to add an insurance run.

Proctor and Such both went 3-for-3 on the day with Such leading the team with three RBI.

Elliott Bisplinghoff started on the mound and pitched five scoreless innings for Methodist to earn the win. Tre Britt, Matt Partin, Ryan Fasano, Michael Mahaffey, and Alex Sholar all entered in relief.

The Monarchs will open up USA South conference action this weekend hosting Averett Saturday at 1 pm and Sunday at 2 pm.
