FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's tennis team opened the 2009 spring season with a 9-0 win over NCAA Division II Fayetteville State.

The Monarchs (1-0) started the match with a sweep in doubles.  Sophomore Kaitlin Flaherty and senior Shannon Vivian won 8-3 and junior Lindsey Davis and freshman Dana Powell won 8-0.  Senior Cameron Tinkham and sophomore Heather Brayton also won 8-0.

Methodist kept up the shutout in singles with Flaherty winning 6-3, 7-5 at number one.  Vivian won 6-0, 6-2 at number two and Davis picked up the 6-1, 6-0 victory at number three.  Powell won 6-1, 6-0 while Brayton and Powell both won 6-0, 6-0 and five and six respectively.

The Monarchs will host Pfeiffer next Saturday at 1 pm.
