Methodist Wins 12-5 Over Emory & Henry

Brian Halpin hit two home runs on the day

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Monarchs' bats rattled off another 21 hits in a 12-5 win over Emory & Henry.

Methodist (10-5) jumped on top early in the first inning with a two-RBI single to left from Brian Inghram and a sacrifice fly from Trey Such. The Wasps (2-7) came back and scored four runs on five hits in the second to lead 4-3.

Brian Halpin led off the bottom of the second with a home run and Mike Twichell followed up with a double. Twichell scored on Shawn Lovette's single for the Monarchs to regain the lead. Emory & Henry tied the game at five in the third on a solo home run, but Methodist scored two more runs in the bottom of the third on Philip Betterly's sacrifice fly and Halpin's second home run of the day.

The Methodist defense shut out the Wasps over the next six innings as the offense rattled off another five runs to secure the win. Dustin Proctor, Tripp Lancaster, Twichell, and Brian Goodwin all added RBI in the victory.

Proctor finished 4-for-5 on the day while Lovette and Inghram hit 3-for-3. Halpin and Twichell were both 3-for-5. Inghram led all batters with three RBI.

Kurt Kelly picked up the win in five innings giving up eight hits with four strikeouts. Joshua Andrade, Tre Britt, Michael Mahaffey and Alex Sholar each pitched an inning of relief.

Methodist and Emory & Henry will meet again on Wednesday at 4 pm.
