FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist Monarchs continued their winning ways with a sweep of Albertus Magnus on Thursday winning 12-2 and 15-1.
Methodist scored two quick runs in the top of the first inning of game one and kept up the offense as they cruised to victory.
Brian Halpin was hit by a pitch in the second inning before
Josh Perks hit his first collegiate home run over the fence in left field to give the Monarchs a 4-0 lead. Methodist added a run in the third and
Shawn Lovette hit a two-RBI double in the fourth before scoring on
Tripp Lancaster's single to increase the lead to 8-0. The Monarchs added four runs on three hits in the fifth to move ahead 12-0.
Tre Britt had a no-hitter going through the first six innings before Kyle Calechman singled in the seventh. The Falcons finished with a home run to prevent the shutout, but fell 12-1. Britt finished with the win going seven innings with six strikeouts. Brendan Hickey took the loss for Albertus Magnus.
Albertus Magnus (0-4) scored the first run of the game on a RBI single in the top of the first. Methodist came back and tied the game in the bottom of the second on a RBI from
Peter Yusckat. The Monarchs blew the game open with nine runs on eight hits and two defensive errors to lead 10-1 after three innings. The Methodist pitching staff held the Falcons scoreless for the remainder of the game before the Monarchs added five runs in the sixth sparked by
Doug Furlong's two-RBI double down the right field line. Methodist finished with the 15-1 win.
Lovette finished 2-for-3 in the game while Lancaster was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Josh Andrade earned the win in four innings pitched with two strikeouts while
Rusty White,
Jeremy Wilkins and
Alex Sholar each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
The Monarchs will take the road this weekend to face Ferrum College in USA South action.
