FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Montclair State Red Hawks took the early lead, but Methodist came from behind to win 6-4.
Montclair State scored a run in each of the first two innings to take the 2-0 lead. Methodist rallied in the bottom of the fourth with a leadoff home run from
Brian Inghram.
Trey Such and
Brian Halpin each picked up a single and
Philip Betterly singled and advanced to second with both runners scoring on the error.
Peter Yusckat had a two out bunt single for Betterly to score the fourth run of the inning.
The Red Hawks cut the lead to one with a sacrifice fly in the fifth but Methodist added a run in the sixth and an insurance run in the seventh on a RBI single from Betterly. Montclair State tried to rally in the ninth, but came away with just one run for Methodist to win 6-4.
Landon Jordan started on the mound and went three innings scattering five hits and striking out three.
Ryan Fasano pitched the middle of the game allowing two hits and sriking out four while Michal Mahaffey finished up the final third giving up two hits and adding four strikeouts.
Halpin finished 3-for-3 while Betterly went 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Shawn Lovette,
Tripp Lancaster and Inghram had two hits a piece.
Methodist will be back in action tomorrow hosting Tufts at 7:30 pm.
