FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's tennis team bounced back from a loss yesterday to defeat Averett 9-0 on Saturday.
While doubles are traditionally played first, due to transportation issues, the Monarchs (7-2, 2-0) and Cougars (0-4, 0-2) squared off in singles first with Methodist taking the sweep.
Kaitlin Flaherty won 6-2, 6-1 at number one and
Shannon Vivian won 6-1, 6-1 at number two.
Lindsey Davis won 6-1, 6-0 at number three and
Dana Powell won 6-0, 6-0 at number four.
Heather Brayton defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-0 at number five and
Sara Altman finished the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win at number six.
Methodist finished off the shutout with three 8-0 wins in doubles. Flaherty and Vivian teamed up at number one while Davis and Powell won at number two. Brayton and
Cameron Tinkham earned the win at number three.
Methodist will travel to Meredith Wednesday for a 3:30 match.
