FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's tennis team took on Hollins University and Ferrum College on Sunday after rainouts on Saturday. The Monarchs won both matches 9-0 to move to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the USA South this season.
In the first match of the day Methodist took on Hollins.
Cameron Tinkham and
Heather Brayton won 8-0 at number three doubles.
Kaitlin Flaherty and
Shannon Vivian won 8-4 at number one and
Lindsey Davis and
Dana Powell won 8-3 at number two.
Flaherty won 6-3, 6-4 at number one and Vivian won 7-5, 6-1 at number two. Davis won 6-1, 6-1 and Powell won the 6-0, 6-0 shutout at number four. Tinkham won 6-1, 6-0 at number five and
Sara Altman won at number six by default.
The Monarchs kept things going in their second match, winning their third USA South match of the season. Flaherty and Vivian won a solid 8-0 matchup at number one. Davis and Powell won 8-2 at number two and Brayton and Tinkham won 8-1 at number three.
Methodist finished off the 9-0 shutout with six singles wins. Flaherty, Powell and Brayton all won 6-0, 6-0 winning 12 straight games. Vivian won 6-1, 6-3 at number two and Davis won 6-1, 6-1 at number three. Tinkham finished out with the 6-3, 6-1 win at number six.
Seniors Vivian, Davis and Tinkham were all recognized in their final home weekend matches of the season. The three combine for an 84 percent winning percentage within the Monarchs program.
Methodist will host Peace on Tuesday at 3:30 pm.
