ASHLAND, Va. - Randolph-Macon came from behind to tie the game at 11, but the Monarchs scored the game-winning run in the top of the ninth to win 12-11 Monday afternoon.

The Monarchs scored first when Trey Such doubled, advanced to third on a passed ball and then scored on Brian Halpin's triple. Peter Yusckat's groundout scored Halpin for the 2-0 lead. Randolph-Macon trimmed the lead in the bottom of the third scoring a run on two doubles, but the floodgates opened in the fourth when Methodist scored six runs on seven hits. Halpin and Yusckat had RBI singles while Mike Twichell hit a sacrifice fly. Tripp Lancaster and Dustin Proctor also picked up RBI singles to help the Monarchs extend their lead to 8-1. Methodist added three runs in the sixth when Shawn Lovette led off with a double and scored on Proctor's fielder's choice before Such hit a two-run homerun.

Trailing 11-1, the Yellow Jackets fought back and took advantage of three Monarch errors in the bottom of the sixth to score six runs on three hits and move within four.  They tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a two-RBI double and a two-run homerun.

Neither team could score in the eighth as the Monarchs left two runners stranded. Brian Goodwin led off the top of the ninth with a single and Josh Perks laid down the sacrifice bunt to move him to second. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases with Lovette and Lancaster to set up Brian Inghram's game-winning RBI-single.  The Monarchs retired the first three batters in the bottom of the ninth to win 12-11.

Halpin finished 4-for-5 with two RBI while Such was 3-for-5 with two RBI. Lovette, Proctor, Yusckat and Goodwin finished with two hits a piece.

Tre' Britt pitched the first 5.2 innings giving up six hits for three earned runs with two strikeouts. Josh Andrade and Kurt Kelly each pitched two thirds of an inning before Alex Sholar finished the eighth and ninth to pick up the win allowing just one hit.

The Monarchs will host Guilford on Thursday at 7 pm in a game rescheduled from last week.
