RALEIGH, N.C. - The Methodist Monarchs picked up two USA South wins on Tuesday, defeating Peace 6-0 and 8-6.
Crystal Metzger started the Monarchs off in the first inning of game one with a home run to left field.
Sara Poling followed up with a home run in the second inning before hitting a two RBI double in the third inning to lead 4-0.
Darci Martin hit a RBI single in the fifth and
Jody Eyler hit a RBI single to help the Monarchs to a 6-0 win.
Eyler hit 3-for-3 while Poling finished 3-for-4 in the game.
Alex Bass pitched the complete game allowing three hits with 10 strikeouts for the win.
Methodist scored three runs in the second inning on four hits in the second inning of game two while taking advantage of three Peace errors. Both teams picked up two runs in the third inning for the Monarchs to lead 5-2.
Cortney Kerns led off the fourth with a double and scored to increase the lead to 6-2 and the Monarchs came up with two more runs in the fifth inning but Peace came back with two runs in the fifth. The Pacers moved within two runs in the sixth, but Methodist held on for the 8-6 win.
Tabatha Stephenson led the Monarchs hitting 3-for-3 with four RBI while Kerns finished 2-for-3.
Jennie Price went 5.1 innings in the circle scattering eight hits with two strikeouts while
Alex Bass came in in the sixth to earn the save with three strikeouts.
The Monarchs will travel to Ferrum on Thursday in a makeup doubleheader at 4:30 pm.
