KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Monarchs came from behind in game one to win 4-3 over Muhlenberg in the eighth inning, but lost 1-0 to Mary Washington in their second game of the day.
Muhlenberg scored one run in the top of the first inning and added two in the fourth inning to lead 3-0. Methodist rallied to tie the game in the sixth inning.
Crystal Metzger led off with a single and
Brittany Melton reached on an error.
Kayla Talbert followed up with a single to score Metzger and
Sara Poling singled to score Melton. Talbert advanced on a fielder's choice and scored the tying run on
Ashley Williams bloop single.
In the bottom of the eighth inning,
Lauren Halpin came in to pinch run for
Alex Bass and was placed on second base in accordance with the international tiebreaker rule.
Caline Daun sacrificed Halpin to third but Halpin was able to score on the defensive error for the Monarchs to win 4-3.
Emily Beck pitched the first five innings for the Monarchs while freshman
Jessica Pridgen earned the win in relief. Talbert finished 2-for-3 while Metzger went 2-for-4.
In the second game of the day, Mary Washington scored the only run of the game to take the 1-0 win over Methodist. The Eagles' pitcher Kirsten Rowell held the Monarchs to just three hits to earn the shutout.
Lesley Hewitt pitched the complete game for Methodist scattering six hits.
Darci Martin led the Monarchs at the plate hitting 2-for-2. Metzger added the other hit for the Monarchs finishing 1-for-3.
Methodist will face Catholic and Neumann on Thursday at the Rebel Games.
