VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Marlins took the lead in the third inning and Methodist just couldn't catch up as Virginia Wesleyan won 6-3 over the Monarchs.
The Marlins scored first in the bottom of the second inning after a lead off single. Methodist tied the game at one with a run in the top of the third.
Brian Inghram doubled to left field to score
Tripp Lancaster. Virginia Wesleyan came back and put together four hits in the bottom of the third to take the 5-1 lead.

Brad Davis hit a two-RBI double in the fifth to score
Shawn Lovette and Inghram, but the Monarchs could not get another run across. The Marlins added an insurance run in the eighth to take the win 6-3.
The Monarchs finished with nine hits, but left 12 runners on base. Lovette led the Monarchs at the plate going 2-for-2 while Inghram hit 3-for-4.
Elliott Bisplinghoff started on the mound and went six innings with four strikeouts.

Landon Jordan and
Alex Sholar came on in relief.
Jesse Baker went six innings for the Marlins to earn the win.
Methodist will open USA South conference action this weekend at Shenandoah on Saturday and Sunday.
