NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Methodist fell behind in the second inning but came back and won 10-6 over Christopher Newport.
The Monarchs scored first when
Brian Halpin doubled to left center and scored on
Brian Goodwin's single. Christopher Newport came back with two home runs in the second inning to take the lead. Methodist tied the game in the third on a RBI single from
Brian Inghram. In the fourth inning,
Shawn Lovette loaded the bases with a hit by pitch and
Tripp Lancaster drew the walk to score Halpin and take the lead at 3-2.
Brian Inghram followed up with a grand slam to give Methodist the 7-2 advantage.
Methodist added two runs in the fifth after a leadoff single from
Dustin Proctor along with two walks and a wild pitch capped off by a sacrifice flly from
Mike Twichell. The Captains scored in the fifth on another home run while the Monarchs tallied with a run on a RBI double from Proctor in the sixth. Christopher Newport tried to rally in the seventh with three runs, but Methodist held them off to win 10-6.
Goodwin finished 3-for-4 while Inghram and Proctor finished with two hits a piece.
Landon Jordan earned the win on the mound in six innings pitched with six strikeouts and seven hits.
Methodist and Christopher Newport will finish out USA South action on Saturday at 1 pm.
