BURLINGTON, N.C. - The Methodist women's tennis team was operating on all cylinders Saturday afternoon as they shutout yet another opponent, winning 9-0 over Peace in the USA South Tournament semifinals.
Kaitlin Flaherty and
Shannon Vivian led off with a 8-0 win at number one doubles. With the win, Vivian ties former teammate
Lauren Hulse with the most doubles wins in Methodist history at 64.
Lindsey Davis and
Dana Powell won 8-2 at number two while
Cameron Tinkham and
Heather Brayton won 8-5 at number three.
Powell finished first in singles winning 6-0, 6-0 at number four. Vivian followed up with the 6-0, 6-1 win at number two, breaking former teammate
Jenny Smith's singles record with her 65th career win. Tinkham won 6-1, 6-0 at number six and Davis won 6-3, 6-0 at number three. Brayton won the five match 6-1, 6-1 while Flaherty finished up with a happy birthday win, 6-1, 6-4, at number one.
The Monarchs advance to the USA South Tournament Championship on Sunday against Meredith College. Please note the match has been moved up to 9 am to avoid projected rain in the greater Burlington area.
