Monarchs Come From Behind to Win 11-10

Brad Davis hit 3-for-5 with three RBI

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist and Guilford played through some mist and drizzle as the Monarchs outlasted the Quakers 11-10 on Thursday night.

The Monarchs took the early 2-0 lead after stringing together four hits and capitalizing on a Quaker error in the first inning. Guilford came back and put together two doubles on top of a Methodist error to tie the game at two. Brian Halpin got things going for the Monarchs in the third with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Brad Davis had a triple to right center in his first start after missing the last nine games. Brian Goodwin singled to score Davis and Shawn Lovette hit a two-run homerun to give Methodist the 6-2 lead.

Guilford came back and tied the game at six in the fifth on five hits capped off by a three-RBI triple. The Monarchs took the 7-6 lead in the sixth with a run on Davis' RBI groundout but the Quakers came back with a three-run homerun in the eighth to lead 9-7. An unearned run in the ninth left the Monarchs down by three runs. Davis led off with a home run over the fence in left and pinch hitter Mike Twichell dropped one into shallow right field. Doug Furlong entered as a pinch runner and scored on Shawn Lovette's triple to center. Tripp Lancaster singled to right to score Lovette and tie the game at 10. With two outs, Lancaster stole second and Dustin Proctor singled through the left side as Lancaster beat the throw at the plate for the Monarchs to win 11-10.

Lancaster went 4-for-6 while Davis finished 3-for-5 and Lovette was 3-for-6. Lovette and Davis had three RBI a piece.

Elliott Bisplinghoff pitched 4.2 innings giving up six hits wiht five strikeouts. Ryan Fasano pitched three innings of relief while Alex Sholar finished up to earn the win with 1.1 innings allowing just one hit with three strikeouts.

The Monarchs will host LaGrange on Saturday at 1 pm.
