ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Methodist softball team picked up two wins over N.C. Wesleyan College 7-6 and 5-0.
The Monarchs took the 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning with RBI singles from
Cortney Kerns and
Crystal Metzger. The Bishops tied the game in the bottom of the second capitalizing on two walks and two hit by pitches. N.C. Wesleyan took the 3-2 lead with a solo home run in the third but Methodist came back and regained the lead in the fifth. The Monarchs scored two unearned runs on three htis to lead 4-3.
Kayla Talbert hit a home run in the top of the sixth and the Monarchs added two more runs on doubles from
Sara Poling and
Darci Martin. N.C. Wesleyan came back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth but Methodist held them off when
Emily Beck entered to pitch and struck out the next Bishop for the third out. The Monarchs finished with the 7-6 win.
Talbert finished 3-for-4 while Martin and
Alex Bass hit 2-for-4. Bass pitched 5.2 innings with seven strikeouts while Beck picked up the save.
The Monarchs took the early lead with an unearned run in the second inning and added a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Metzger. Poling scored Talbert with a sacrifice fly in the fifth before Martin hit a two-run home run for the Monarchs to lead 5-0.
Jessica Pridgen pitched the complete game shutout to earn the win.
Martin finished 3-for-4 while Kerns hit 2-for-3 and
Jody Eyler hit 2-for-4.
The Monarchs will host Christopher Newport on Friday at 2:30 pm.
