RALEIGH, N.C. - Both the Methodist and Meredith women's tennis teams started today's match undefeated in the USA South with hopes of securing the conference championship.
Meredith took a 2-1 lead after doubles.
Lindsey Davis and
Dana Powell lost at number two 8-2 but Methodist came back and tied it up with
Kaitlin Flaherty and
Shannon Vivian's 8-3 win at number one.
Cameron Tinkham and
Heather Brayton lost in a tiebreaker at number three 9-8 (7-0).
The Angels added a win at number three singles when Davis was defeated 6-3, 6-4 but Methodist won the next three matches to take the 4-3 lead. Vivian won 6-1, 6-4 at number two and Flaherty won 6-2, 6-2 at number one while Brayton won 6-2, 6-1 at number five. The Monarchs needed one more match to secure the victory when Tinkham clinched with the 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win at number six. Powell lost in two sets in tiebreakers 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-3), but the Monarchs prevailed 5-4.
Methodist remains at the top of the USA South standings at 8-0. They will travel to Christopher Newport on Saturday for the final match of the regular season.
