Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - In the first game of the Soccer for a Cure Classic, the Methodist men's soccer team battled regionally ranked Emory for a solid 90 minutes. Scoreless for the first 65, the Eagles broke the tie with a converted penalty kick to win 1-0.
The Monarchs (1-4) had the first shot attempt on a free kick from junior
Brion Kelly, but it was blocked. The teams combined for eight shots in the first half, but the score was tied at zero at halftime. In the 65th minute, the referees called a penalty kick for Emory (2-1) and Jake Graetz scored to put the Eagles up 1-0. Methodist continued to pressure, but the Eagles finished up with the win.
Sophomore
Kyle Beach made seven saves for the Monarchs while Trenton Spindler had three saves for Emory.
The Monarchs will be back at home on Sunday to host Catholic at 12 pm.
