Monarchs Come Up Short to Hornets

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Methodist women's soccer team dropped their first USA South Conference game 2-0 to Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.

The Monarchs (4-5, 0-1) took control early maintaining possession with three early shots, but it was Shenandoah (4-4-1, 1-0) who scored first with a goal in the 39th minute. The Hornets held the 1-0 lead at halftime before knocking in their second goal in the 67th minute to go ahead 2-0.

Methodist had three more shot opportunities, but Shenandoah goalkeeper Kat Terza held on for the shutout. The Monarchs out shot the Hornets 10-9 while Terza finished with eight saves. Methodist goalkeeper Kasey Nichols made six saves for the Monarchs.

Methodist will look to even their conference record at Mary Baldwin Sunday afternoon.
