Methodist Men's Soccer Comes Up Short in Overtime

Box Score DANVILLE, Va. - Methodist and Averett men's soccer teams battled through 90 scoreless minutes of regulation before the Cougars prevailed 1-0 in overtime.

The two teams finished even at five shots a piece through the first half. The Averett offense stepped up in the second half creating 12 shots to the Monarchs' five. Methodist goalkeeper Kyle Beach made five of his seven saves in the second half helping to hold the game scoreless at the end of regulation.

Averett had the first opportunity in overtime with a header off of a corner kick, but Beach made the save. Averett's Mark-Antony Liljeklev scored the game-winning goal in the 98th minute.

Nate Barker made three saves for the Cougars.

The Monarchs will be back in action on Saturday when they host top-ranked Christopher Newport at 3:30 p.m.
