FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Lynchburg College came out firing early and finished with the 7-1 win over the Methodist University women's soccer team Sunday afternoon.
Kristen Melchiori scored two quick goals for Lynchburg in the first fifteen minutes before Betsy Kwiatkowski scored on a penalty kick for the 3-0 lead. The Hornets added three more goals in the first half for the 6-0 halftime lead.
Kwiatkowski notched her second goal of the game in the 55th minute before Methodist prevented the shutout with a goal from
Lisa Paschal in the 58th minute.
Tia Beckwith passed the long ball over the defense allowing Paschal to run onto it and slot it past the Hornets' goalkeeper.
Methodist's
Kasey Nichols made four saves and
Sara Altman added two. Jackie Bader and Karsen Schottleutner combined for three saves for Lynchburg.
Methodist will take the road next weekend to face Meredith and Peace.
