FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Eighth ranked Shenandoah University took an early 3-1 lead over the Monarchs before finishing with the 4-2 USA South win.

The Hornets (11-3, 3-2) came out with bats swinging and rattled off 15 hits against Methodist (12-5, 2-3). The Monarchs tagged a runner at the plate in the first to prevent a run, but Shenandoah came back and took the 1-0 lead in the second. Methodist equalized in the bottom of the inning after a lead-off double from Brian Halpin. Halpin moved to third on an error and scored on a groundout from Matt Quick.

Shenandoah regained the lead with a run in the fourth and added what would be the game-winning run in the fifth. Brian Inghram hit a solo home run over the right field fence in the sixth to cut the lead to one, but the Hornets added a run in the seventh and the Monarchs came up short 4-2.

Halpin finished 2-for-4 for the Monarchs while Tripp Lancaster went 1-for-3 and Inghram was 1-for-4.

Landon Jordan took the loss on the mound with five strikeouts in 6.2 innings pitched. Tre Britt finished in relief.
